Richard Byrd and the total attack to the Antarctica

In fact, starting from 1946, once the world situation seemed to be to be " stabilized ", and finished the horrors of World War I I, the North American potential came to the top, trying to "expel" the elements installed in the German base of NEU-SCHABENLAND , in Antartica.

Several missions were send to that continent; however they had a lot of deaths ; several surveillance airplanes sent to photograph that area ended for being shoot down.

Due to the failures, the high military commands called the most experienced man in polar flights: admiral Richard Byrd. This man had already taken several aerial trips to the North pole and the South pole in the end of the years 20 and 30 organizing and participating in several aerial missions to the coldest zones of the planet in 1929, 1934 and 1939.

Then, Richard Byrd prepared, in 1946, the first operation to "conquer" NEU-SCHABENLAND which involved several special forces designated

"Operation Highjump".

The plan was: they entered for the opposite area of the NEU-SCHBENLAND crossing the whole Antarctica territory, in direction to its objective:

This military operation combined with sea and air forces was constituted for:

a break-ices the HORTHWIND;

two ships cistern, the CAPACAN and the CANISTED;

two aircraft carrier, the PHILIPPINES SEA and the CURRITUCK;

two support ships the YANKEE and the MERRICK;

two destroyers, the HENDERSON and the BROWNSEN;

a submarine, the SENNET; and

a ship-catapult, the PINE-ISLAND;

6500 men (North American, English and Soviets)

In this operation it resulted a retreat " forced " with 1500 deaths and lost a lot material war .

Returning to United States, by Chile, Richard Byrd said, in press conference, in Mars 5 , 1947, that the largest menace came now from the South pole, because they had observed airships that could fly to impressive speeds.

In United States it was difficult to justify to the public opinion the great number of deaths in the Antarctica, but the subject was closed. This operation was well-known by the PENGUIN WAR , once the federal government said that in that territory penguins just existed.

On January 8, 1956, several cientists of a Chilean scientific expedition in that continent, they observed for several hours, flying objects identified in cigar form and disk, flying in the sky in the area of Weddell Sea.

On that same year of 1956, a new military operation was tried by the North Americans:

Operation Deepfreeze

and the results went more devastating than to previous, and the US army Antartica left in May of 1958, and, to proceed, in August 27 and September 9. South Africa to detect two nuclear explosions in the area of NEU-SCHBENLAND being an underground one and another to the surface. The result was the violent protest of several countries that they demanded the end of the nuclear explosions in the Antarctica. The result went to signature of an agreement of not use of nuclear weapons in that territory, to the year 2.000!!!
